Structural Geologist
Teaching
I really enjoy teaching topics related to Structural Geology and Tectonics. I know I am not as good as "Great Teacher Onizuka", but I try my best. I am involved in both BSc and Msc courses, and if activated, also in PhD teaching activities, with "Earth System and applications" (since 2018; PhD school in Earth Sciences, UNITO). Here you can find a few details on the courses where I am involved.
Student reception - Monday 16.00-18.00 or by appointment (write me an email)
Tectonics and Regional Geology
Since 2018, I am involved in the course "Tectonics and Regional Geology" - BSc in Geological Sciences (UNITO). In this course a general introduction to the Global Tectonics is provided and a general picture on the Peri-Mediterranean regional settings (mainly Alps and Apennines belts) is illustrated. A field trip of two days, mainly aimed to illustrate the structure of the oceanic lithosphere, is scheduled. More details here.
Earth System and applications
Since 2018, I am involved in the course "Earth system and applications" - PhD in Earth Sciences (UNITO). we provide a general introduction to the Earth system (e.g., rock cycle and rocks classification; structures of the rocks; Global Tectonics) to PhD students with a non-geological background. More details here.
Microtectonics with lab
Since 2019, I am taking part to the course "Microtectonics with laboratory" - MSc in Applied Earth Sciences (UNITO). In this course we focus on the study of tectonites at the microscale in order to obtain key-observations/information on the tectono-metamorphic history recorded in naturally deformed rocks, with implication on large scale Tectonics reconstructions. A one-day field trip on spectacular Alps outcrops is scheduled. More details here.
Applied Structural Geology
Since 2017, I am involved in the course "Applied Structural Geology" - MSc in Applied Earth Sciences (UNITO). In this course, we illustrate basics tools of Structural Geology to a wide spectrum of applications (including finite strain analysis, slope stability, balancing cross sections). A multiple-days field excursion is organized (typically the Elba Island), related to the observation of relationships between geological structures (folds, faults, shear zones) with slope stability, magmatic bodies, fluid flow and ore bodies. More details here.
